BIG PINE KEY, Florida Keys — Attention, water enthusiasts: boats, motors and nautical items galore are to be available at the 14th annual Big Pine & Lower Keys Nautical Expo. A popular annual “pop-up” outfitter of supplies for a wide variety of water activities, the open-air market is set for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 13-14.

The bargain-lover’s event typically features merchandise for sailors and boaters, anglers, kayakers, fans of the Florida Keys’ underwater realm and others who enjoy experiencing the island chain’s unique seafaring environment.

More than 150 vendors are expected to display and sell their wares at the event, to be held on the grounds of the Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce, mile marker 31 oceanside on Big Pine Key.

Dive and snorkel equipment, fishing gear, boating supplies and nautical-themed merchandise of all kinds are to be among the items on hand for purchase. Attendees also can find items to enhance a comfortable coastal lifestyle as well as colorful clothing, jewelry and other unique wares created by talented Keys artisans.

In addition to the offerings for sale, the family-friendly event includes live music by local and regional musicians and bands. Attendees can savor Keys-style and casual food and beverages purchased from on-site vendors, and multiple raffle giveaways are scheduled to round out the fun.

Proceeds from the Big Pine Nautical Expo are to benefit the Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce.

Holiday Photos with a Dolphin
November 3, 2014 - December 19, 2014
Details:

Holiday Photos Program Returns to Dolphin Research Center

Grassy Key… If a picture’s worth a thousand words, imagine how friends and family will talk when they see a holiday photo picturing you and a dolphin!  Now through December 19th, Dolphin Research Center (DRC), located at 58901 Overseas Highway, Grassy Key, is again giving guests the opportunity for a holiday photo.  Visitors who participate in DRC’s Meet the Dolphin program can bring their own Santa hats, reindeer antlers or other accessories to use while posing.  DRC’s experienced photographers will shoot the pictures using high-resolution digital cameras.  For Meet the Dolphin guests go onto a floating dock to give backrubs and share a “flippershake” with a dolphin and have their photo taken.  The program is offered several times each day on a walk-in basis and costs $25 per person in addition to general admission prices.  The photos are supplied on a flash drive for $20 for one person and $35 for multiple people in the same shot.  Quality prints are also available and print prices vary depending on number ordered.  Group size is limited to four people.

Founded 30 years ago, Dolphin Research Center is a nonprofit education and research facility, located at mile marker 59 on Grassy Key in Marathon, FL.  Open daily from 9 am to 4:30 pm, DRC is home to a family of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins and California sea lions.  The center features narrated behavior sessions and educational presentations throughout the day, as well as a variety of interactive programs and other educational opportunities.  For more information, visit www.dolphins.org or call 305-289-1121.
